The alternate driving day system, helped ease Beijing traffic problems.

It also contributed to cleaner air during the Olympics.

But the scheme ends on April 10th.

The question is, should it be extended?

The 'Beijing News' published an article by Jin Guokun, a professor in the Beijing Administrative Institute.

He says it's important to think this through, before making a decision.

He says this should be based, on environmental data, and be made public.

By doing so, everyone in Beijing is informed, about how much the system, contributed to the environment.

He also points out, that the driving day system may not have been popular with everyone. So he says that requires a careful evaluation.

He says, that the government should respect people's views, because it affects their daily lives.
He recommends public hearings.
