The pot calling the kettle black.

对此,英文的解释是“Since the pot and the kettle are equally black from the cooking fire, the pot has not right to criticize the kettle”。
A: "I'm tired of you always wearing my clothing!"
B: "Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? You're wearing my pants right now!"

Jennifer: What's that hunk of steel you're carrying?
Billy: It's my kickboard.
Jennifer: You'll drown if you think that's a kickboard.
Billy: Jen, get with the show, OK? This is the latest mode of transportation.
Jennifer: OK, so you've graduated from your tricycle and moved onto the kickboard...
Billy: Nice joke, Jen, but not every kickboard has three wheels. Some only have two wheels.

1、 kickboard (n.)
2、 get with the show (俚)跟上流行,赶上时髦
3、 transportation (n.)
4、 hunk (n.)
5、 drown (v.)
6、 mode (n.)
7、 tricycle (n.)

The Art of Action

Kwan Tak Hing(关德兴) made approximately 90 Wong Fei Hung movies. He became so identified with the character Wong Fei Hung that Kwan Tak Hing himself became a living legend. When he retired, he became a healer, opened up a pharmacy and taught martial arts.

Even though Kwan Tak Hing's Wong Fei Hung films were incredibly popular, women were still the real stars throughout the 1950s.

So (I) my first movie, It's not a woman in the movie. In the movie, I am a man, a guy. At that time, maybe earlier of stage, acting was very low. The men, in the family, they'd rather their wives, to watch a lady do it.

The female stars of that period were Pei Pei Cheng(郑佩佩), Josephine Sao(萧芳芳), Suet Nei(雪妮) and Chan Po chu(陈宝珠). Every one of them regularly portrayed a man in a film.

Asian society's attitude toward movies had not changed since the 1920s.

The 1950s and early 1960s had two major film companies, one came to be known as the Cathay Film Company(国泰电影公司), the other was the Shaw Brothers(邵氏电影公司).

In 1950s the Shaw Brothers built a huge secluded and totally self-contained studio on Clear Water Bay(清水湾), Hong Kong. It was a city onto itself where everyone worked, lived, ate and slept--everyone. Set painters, directors, actors, prop masters, cameramen--anyone who had anything to do with making a film lived on the studio lot, miles from anywhere. In the early 1950s Raymond Chow(邹文怀) joined Shaw Brothers and is credited along with owner Run Run Shaw(邵逸夫) with improving production and story standards.

Under the watchful eye of Raymond Chow, Shaw Brothers continued with the popular swordplay-influenced stories. However, he and his directors were beginning to take note of Japanese film makers, particularly Aira Kurosawa(黑泽明).

I think Shaw Brothers has deliberately attempted to copy samurai movies, because I think back then it's big moneymakers in Asia. They are very influential. Some of them get into artistic levels such as Kurosawa's.

I think the Japanese at that time, at that period in history, were very, very realistic in their depiction of what happens in terms of a battle, a sword fight.

Akira Kurosawa was a great humanitarian. His themes were powerful and counter to the nationalistic fervor of the time. He was one brave man.

All of the great Kurosawa classics were brilliant personification of not only film making but the philosophies and the spiritual aspects of the martial arts.

The Shaw Brothers management regularly screened Kurosawa's and other Japanese films for its producers, writers and directors. The message they got was that powerful drama and realistic action was possible. Three Shaw Brothers directors--King Hu(胡金铨), Chang Che(张彻), and Lau Kar Leung(刘家良)--were particularly influenced. This trio would change the face of martial arts films, and in very different ways.

King Hu and Chang Che are of tremendous influence to the martial arts films of the era, because almost everyone is imitating their work.

He is, I think, is a very, very important people for the Hong Kong martial art movie because he totally changed the style. It's a line there. Before that, martial art movie is just Beijing Opera. Then start from the Come Drink With Me, the martial art movie, it's an action movie. So I think that's totally different, made me very famous, that's right. This, the movie, changed my whole life, because after that, I do a lot, a lot of martial art movies. Even Crouching Tiger, I am still in martial art, right? So, it changed my whole life.

Most obviously, of course King Hu I think he sets tone for many things.
