Confucius has preached that we should be honest, never lie about the stuff we don’t know and should never pretend to have the answers. However, people make the mistakes all the time. Someone has said, as human beings, our knowledge is a small island in the middle of the vast ocean of the unknown. Therefore, there is no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed of the unknown. The golden rule is to begin learning instead of pretending we have known.
Recently when reading the RD magazine, there is an article about the secrets of doctors and hospitals, one of which is that those who dare to tell the patients they “don’t know” are more likely the good doctors and experts. This is an interesting secret. However, if we think it over, it is not that difficult to understand, because after all, this kind of doctors has a clear understanding of the known and the unknown. As a result, they can be trusted because when they tell you the things they know, it means they really do and even if they are not, they will not lie to you—at least, you will not be misled. In contrast, those who appear to know everything have a relatively low credibility since you don’t know whether they do know the truth or just shuffle through.
This is also the case with leaders. Leaders are not the one who should give answers to all the questions but rather should be open and listen to others. So don’t have to feel obliged to have the answer if you are a leader and don’t think little of your boss if he does not have the answer as long as he is willing to find out the answers and listen to yours…
Dare to say i don't know, especially on some occasions, it takes courage and risks but it is all worth it.
