BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A Frenchman working as a water treatment engineer in Baghdad was kidnapped from his home in the Iraqi capital on Monday, an Iraqi police officer said.
An official at the French embassy said he was unaware of any incident but was seeking information.
Police gave the man's name, transliterated from Arabic script, as Brent Blanche and quoted witnesses as saying seven gunmen in two cars snatched him as he prepared to leave in his car from his home in the smart, western district of Mansour.
It was the third kidnapping involving Westerners in 10 days and follows the disappearance of German archaeologist and aid worker Susanne Osthoff on November 25 and four Christian peace activists from Canada, Britain and the United States the following day.
