不给糖果就捣蛋(Trick-or-treating at the War Mansion)
 October 31,1999. It was Halloween. My brother and I were going trick-or-treating. I was dressed up as a werewolf and my brother Jordan, a pirate. We always went to our friends' houses but not this Halloween.
This time we were going to the old haunted mansion. Legend has it, that the soldiers used it for a war base in the Civil War. Anyway we didn't believe in that. So off we went. As we were walking by the front door, Jordan stepped on a loose piece of wood. He went crashing through the floor. I hollered at him to tell me where he was, but all that came back was a terrifying scream!
I didn't know what to do, but suddenly I remembered that I had some torn string in my pocket. I lowered it down to him but it was too weak to hold him. Suddenly when I turned around, there in front of me I saw a skeleton of an old war soldier! I ran for my life but then I remembered that Jordan was still stuck in the mansion. So I ran home and got some rope.
Then I ran back to the mansion with rope. To my surprise I saw Jordan coming out of the hole that he had fallen into. Behind him where some war soldiers. I guess they got him out. I was so scared I grabbed his hand and we ran. We never went trick-or-treating there again. .
On our way home I felt something tapping me on the back. As I turned around I saw another war ghost. I was really scared but then the ghost said, "Don't be afraid I won't hurt you." I then realized that all this time the ghost just wanted to have a friend. I thought for a while and then said, "I'll take you home and you can live with me." "O.K.," he said. So I took him home. So now on every Halloween we go trick-or-treating with our new ghost friend, and the kids on the block really get a kick out of him.
As we were stepping onto our front porch we noticed a note on the door that read, "You have set us free of the curse and now we can let our spirits haunt people on Halloween. Thank you." And to this day the spirits of the war ghosts still fly around haunting people on Halloween.fVn中国英语学习网
