Violence Leads to More Violence[以暴难以治暴]gnQ中国英语学习网
Israel's assassination of Ahmed Yassin in March is a graphic example of violence only leading to more violence. Will the killing make Israel safer? Was it right for Israel to kill Yassin?
Certainly, Yassin was a terrorist. As the founder of the militant Palestinian group Hamas, whose goal is the destruction of Israel, he was the leader of a war of terror against Israeli men, women and children.
Israel believes it was right to kill the leader of a dangerous terrorist group that in the past few years has killed hundreds of innocent Israelis.
But Israel was condemned worldwide for its action because assassination is an extreme tactic that should be used only in extreme circumstances, such as when terrorists are about to carry out an attack. That was not the case here: Yassin was killed as he left a mosque. He was targeted for other reasons: he is a major threat to Israeli security, and Hamas has grown in power and may take over the Gaza Strip when Israeli forces are withdrawn.
With Yassin gone, however, Israel will not be more secure. Palestinians are now crying out for revenge. People fear that even more Israelis will be killed by Palestinian suicide bombers who are taught by Islamic leaders that they will go to paradise while their Jewish victims go to hell.
This kind of madness must stop. |
