Dear Annie: I wonder if it's possible for kids to truly understand and appreciate all they have. My teenagers are good kids. They don't get into trouble, and they do well in school, but it never occurs to them to be thankful. The kids help around the house only when ordered to do so. They do community service projects through school and church, but they consider these projects to be chores（杂务） instead of opportunities to help others. Am I expecting too much? Dear Mom: Teenagers often are self-involved（顾自己）, although it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't appreciative. Also, too many parents indulge（纵容，溺爱） their children with material（物质的的） goodies, teaching kids to think the world owes them something.

It wouldn't hurt to sit down and talk to them, honestly and lovingly, about their attitude. Remind them how lucky they are to have parents who can afford such luxuries（奢侈品） and that privilege（恩典）brings with it an obligation（责任） to help others. Let them know they must say "thank you," and mean it, when they receive a gift. It will take repetition（反复）and effort from you, but it can be done.
