PART I.The Dialogue

在第23讲,我们谈到一对年轻人准备结婚。要办结婚酒席,可就要找饭馆儿了。在这一讲里,饭馆儿老板Sinclair先生有一个学徒,名叫Ross,他上班迟到了,只好向老板道歉。
ROSS: Morning,Mr Sinclair.
MR SINCLAIR:Morning,Ross.
ROSS:Sorry I'm late.
MR SINCLAIR: You were late yesterday too.
ROSS: I know. Sorry about that.
MR SINCLAIR: And the day before.
ROSS: I'm very sorry, Mr Sinclair. I'II try to get up earlier.
此外,Ross还老闯祸。在广播里,可以听到他每次闯祸以后怎样向Sinclair先生道歉。

PART III - The  Lesson

APOLOGIZIN G道歉

1.MAKING APOLOGIES 向别人道歉
表示道歉的说法很多,大都要用sorry一词:
Sorry.
Oh, sorry!
I'm sorry.
I'm very sorry/awfully sorry/
so sorry/l am sorry.(这几个说法,语气比较重)
Sorry I'm late.(说明道歉的原因)
在比较正式或比较严肃的场台逋散,就不用sorry,而用名词apology,或用动词apologize。例如:
I have AN APOLOGY to make.
I haven't finished the job yet.
这样说,下面紧跟着就要解释,为什么要道歉。 I have有时可以代之以I've got。
I must APOLOGIZE FOR the delay.
I must APOLOGIZEF FOR beING ate.
(For后面要接名词,倒如the delay,或者接-ing形式的动词。)

2.ACCEPTING APOLOGIES 接受别人道歉
别人道歉•我们通常是不拒绝的。接受别人道歉,说法很简单:That's O.K. / That's all right.
Not to worry (= there's no need to worry).
It doesn't matter。
Forget it.  (意思是:这件事就算过去了,继续做别的事吧。也表示有些不高兴。)
No problem.
这些都是英语口语中常用的说法。

下面这几个词的熏音有一个共同的舰律,都在倒数第三个音节。这样的词,有许多是各门学科的名词。

geology(地质学)/biology(生物学)/microbiology(微生物学)
